Rumble Tumble

Rumble Tumble is a 4 player local multiplayer brawler. Set in a medieval fantasy world, where players can pick from four characters.  Utilising Klutzy rag doll physics and dynamic level events to eliminate their opponents for fame and glory.

Rumble Tumble is my 3rd-year team project with 8 members including myself. Still, currently in development this project will be completed and released on itch.io in spring 2021.

The development process of the project was very different from previous years due to the impact of covid-19 on working practices. This meant that remote working would be at the forefront of our development. Strong communication, effective task management, and rigorous timekeeping became the fundamentals needed to retain optimum productivity.

My Role

As the teams level designer, my role was very important due to being directly involved with one of our unique selling points, dynamic level events. The main level event for the farm level is at a random point during gameplay a bull will be released onto playable farm area, this is designed to impact the players and the level in which they reside.

Through this development, I needed to closely work with all disciplines in the creation and implementation of these dynamic level events. This mitigated problems that could arise further down the development process.

Reflection

Although I am only halfway through the development of this project, it has taught me so much already. The change towards remote working practices has taught me the importance of communication, interdisciplinary cohesion, and efficient online task management. Through this change, I have become a more rounded designer and team member. It has allowed me to become an effective team member at the studio & from home in preparation for potential longterm changes to the working practices of the industry.
